Philip Graham OK, Sathima Bea Benjamin's song"Africa," on the Matsuli Music anthology, is so damn good I need the entire album. The other two tracks are just as remarkable. I chose the a cappella "African Songbird" here because her expressive voice and phrasing utterly shines. Singer and songwriter Benjamin, btw, was the wife of and musical collaborator with Dollar Brand (Abdullah Ibrahim), friends with Duke Ellington, and mother of hip-hop genius Jean Grae. Favorite track: African Songbird.
